The challenge facing refugees in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is home to over 12,000 asylum seekers. While their claims are being processed — a process that can take four to six years — they are not permitted to work. They receive a small government subsistence allowance and wait.
Many arrive with significant skills, education, and ambition. The system leaves that potential untapped.
RefuGeek exists to change that. Technology skills are portable, learnable, and in demand. They can generate freelance income. They transfer internationally. And they build something equally important: confidence, purpose, and community.
An initiative of the Fargo Foundation
RefuGeek is a programme of the Fargo Foundation, a Hong Kong-registered charitable institution. Our instructors are volunteers and professionals who give their time to deliver structured, practical digital skills training to refugee communities.
The Fargo Foundation's tagline is Go Further — and RefuGeek is the practical expression of that mission: giving people the tools to go further, wherever life takes them.
